Madurai: When the Tamil Nadu government decided to reopen the place of worship on weekends to the public after a ban on five and a half-month, churches in Madurai watched large amounts of people for Sunday service.
“No go to church on Sunday is one of the worst things that can happen to a worshiper like me, but even waiting for Covid to settle down,” said T Helen, from Chinna Chokkikulam.
Churches in Madurai, including the CSI Church in Narimedu, St Mary’s Church at the South Gate, the Sahaya Matha Church at Koodal Nagar, the Holy Rosary Church, and others in all districts have the people who come throughout the day on Sundays.
In other districts too, people visit large amounts of churches.
“It’s like Christmas to go to church after a long time,” Rajkumar said from Melur.
When the government raised the prohibition on weekends in religious places, a large crowd participated in St Mary’s Church in Velletti in the Tuticorin district, where the annual festival was raised on October 7, ongoing.
