PANAJI: Benaulim Mla Churchill Alemo tried to obtain political profits by misleading the local population and the shack operator about the importance of sand dunes, said Congress on Saturday.
The party said that the coastal zone management plan (CZMP) did not identify and limit all the dunes in the state and Alemao to try to symbolize demarcation of the dunes.
It also demands that the country and the center must limit the port limit (MPT) Mormugao Port Trust.
Congress has threatened to start fresh agitation if the dunes are not fully limited and if the MPT port limit is not informed.
“MLA Benaulim is silent about the limit of the MPT port but wants the dunes to be removed,” said Secretary General of the State Congress Royla Fernandes.
A few days ago, Alememo said that the dunes should not be limited to CZMP because it would affect the operator and fishermen shack.
In written letters, Alememo said that the national center based in Chennai for sustainable coastal management had the wrong dunes throughout the coastal belt from Velso to Cavelossim.
Congress said that Alemao tried to create an undue panic between the owners of huts and fishermen about the depiction of the sand dun.
“The coastal coastal management authority does not misctivate the dunes along the coast.
But they know the importance of this dune, and eligible to speak in that regard,” said Fernandes.
Congress spokesman Olencio Simoes said the dunes were to protect coastal areas of strong waves, high waves and coastal floods.
He said that the port limit must be renovated and the dunes must be limited to the welfare of the fisheries community.
“If the government fails to do this, we will intensify our agitation to get justice,” he said.
