Nagpur: A study of wastewater from households in Nagpur Regency, coupled with a small sero survey with 1,000 blood samples collected from Nagpur City, by the Institute of Central Indian Medical Sciences (CIIMS) together show that at least the city of Nagpur has achieved the immune herd.
.
While the study of waste water is still in the final phase, the sero survey is complete.
This research can also help predict the wave of future viral diseases, before the virus achieves the spread of the community.
The large Indian multi-collaborative research project in wastewater epidemiology is taking place at the In-House CIIMS research center.
Initially, this study aims to determine the transmission of Covid-19 but now also focuses on other viruses such as Rotavirus, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis E, Norovirus, Adenovirus, and Enterovirus.
Members of the CIIMS Research Team told reporters on Thursday that the initial results were astonishing and they could predict the attack of the previous virus.
“We can prepare for such a disease if the study of waste water gets government support for sustainable research,” they said.
“This project was carried out between January and August this year.
We collected samples of wastewater from Nagpur Regency for six months.
We are in the process of completing a detailed report from this study.
But at first, we have found the Covid-19 virus in most water samples Waste in all parts of Nagpur, “said Dr.
Rajpal S Kashyap, senior scientist and Director of Research CIIMS, who led the investigator for this study.
CIIMS accepts RS2.35 Crore Grant through the Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF), which is provided by the Collaborative Partners of the International University of Nottingham, England.
City waste was collected from ten different city zones from Nagpur Urban, and Nullah, and general effluent points from 13 Talukas covering all Nagpur districts.
Wastewater collected is processed at the B Lal Institute of Biotechnology, Jaipur, which performs nucleic acid extraction (DNA / RNA) and subsequent analysis for SARS COV-2.
The CIIMS research team found that the number of wastewater samples with SARS COV-2 were lacking during January but began to increase from February and so on.
Up to 89% of positive samples during April and May, while this number is reduced from July-end.
According to researchers, the analysis of waste water gave them the initial idea of viral exposure to the population.
“The estimated copy of the viral RNA from SARS COV-2 in the environment can be taken as an indirect indicator of the population exposed to Covid-19 disease in certain areas, regions or cities,” Dr.
Kashyap said, added a larger one.
and comprehensive studies can be useful for the nation.
Dr.
Lokendra Singh, Director of the CIIMS Hospital, said the institution also brought a sero-survey analysis of around 1,000 blood samples collected from various Nagpur city zones to correlate the exposure to the SARS COV-2 community with waste data.
HEED IMUNITY BOX THERE IS HERE * CIIMS Study Presents Covid-19 Data specifically Nagpur * The majority of positive waste water samples for Covid-19 before the second wave of hard hit * SERO-based blood sample surveys show more than 70% of Nagpurian infections * of 400 people who don’t vaccinated, 70% has natural antibodies * of 600 vaccinated subjects, 85% plus has vaccine-based antibodies * overall, Nagpur is heading towards herd immunity now
