NEW DELHI: Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, a 1985 batch IPS officer serving since CISF DG, has been appointed CBI manager on Tuesday. He had been selected from a shortlist of three officers along with the other being SSB leader Kumar Rajesh Chandra and distinctive secretary at house ministry V S T Kaumudi — eliminated by the PM-led collection committee on Monday. Jaiswal, who had been the senior-most officer at the panel, could have a fixed tenure of two years from the date he assumes charge as CBI manager, or till further orders, whichever is sooner. The shortlist of 3 officers had been accepted by the high-profile choice committee — consisting of PM Narendra Modi, CJI N V Ramana and chief of Congress at Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury shortly following the CJI cited a eligibility rule concerning minimal two-year rest term, dependent to a 2019 Supreme Court judgment this, paradoxically, pertained only to say DGP appointments. The standards removed many hopefuls, such as BSF DG Rakesh Asthana and NIA DG Y C Modi. Even though Asthana is scheduled to retire on July 31, Modi superannuates in the end of the month. The three to the shortlist accepted by the selection board would be that the seniormost officers left at the reckoning after people with less than six weeks of revision remaining were removed. An IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre, Jaiswal was serving since CISF DG as January. The CBI manager’s post has been vacant since early February if Rishi Kumar Shukla’s evaluation finished. Additional manager Praveen Sinha was serving as the interim leader since.
