Coimbatore: Coimbatore Technology Institute (CIT), which has turned into a Covid-19 cluster with 19 students who tested the positive virus so far, closed on Wednesday for an unlimited period.
CIT Polytechnic College Sandwich on the same campus has also been closed without limits.
The teacher has been instructed to take online classes for other students until further notice.
The first case at Cit has appeared on September 16 when a daily scholar was tested by a positive virus.
Then, five of his contacts, who lived in the hostel, were found infected.
Health officials have collected 700 swab samples from college so far.
This district, meanwhile, reported 235 fresh Covid cases that day, even when 237 patients were dismissed from various treatment centers, carrying active cases slightly to 2,165.
While the district has seen 2.40,915 Covid cases so far, 2,36,430 of them have recovered.
The district also recorded Covid’s deaths that day, pushing tolls to 2,320.In Tirupur, 101 people were tested positive for the virus that day, took the calculation to 92.307, where 937 was an active case.
At least 71 patients were thrown out that day.
With this, the number of patients restored has reached 90,420.
