Mumbai: With 741mm rainfall, Mumbai recorded the second September in four years and the soded in two years.
In September 2017, the total monthly rainfall recorded was 603.2mm, and in September 2019, 1,115.7mm.
The recorded rainfall this September is more than double the normal average rainfall of 327.1mm.
In comparison, August looked under the average monthly rainfall normal, while June and July recorded normal rain activities (see boxes).
Also for the third consecutive season, the city reported more than 3,000mm rainfall – 3,163.5mm until September 30 – and seasonal advantages for 2021 at 43%.
This Monsun, Mumbaikars watched three very heavy rain – 9-10 June (231.3mm), 16-17 (253.3mm) and July 18-19 (235mm).
The Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) considers more than 204.5mm rainfall in 24 hours very severe.
Officials said that there was still time for the withdrawal of monsoons above the city – the date of normal withdrawal was October 8 – the rain spell being expected in the coming days.
However, depression in the Northeast Arab Sea from Gujarat Beach, which is likely to increase into a storm of a cyclone, is likely to continue to move to the west to the west to Pakistani-makran beach, move away from the coast of India.
“The system will not hit the Indian beach,” said IMD.
When the rainy season comes close, seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai have 100% water stock, maintaining the concern for water cutting in the bay.
On Thursday, the total water stock reached nearly 14.3 late million liters (98.8% of the required quantum).
The total water stock needed is 14.5 latris million liters on October 1 so that the city goes without a piece of water for the rest of this year.
