Nagpur: The city, who has been proud of having a very friendly and bump road, is now decorated with holes, tearing patches and mud holes that appear every monsoon.
In accordance with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) survey, this city, spread at 227.29 SQKM, has 1,491.19 km of road tar, while 666.78km has been converted into cement.
The city has around 144 km of Jalan Kuccha and this is the reason for caring for motorists.
The streets are under various domains of agents such as NMC, Nagpur Everbent Trust (NIT), NHAI and the State Public Works Department (PWD).
The national highway is 1.35% of the total road network, the state highway and Jalan PWD have a length of 91.13km while NMC and Nit are responsible for 2,080.26 km of road.
Different institutions have affected infrastructure development in the peripheral area of the city.
This also means that responsibility has a good road mostly lies in NMC and Nit.
BJP Corporator from East Nagpur Rajkumar Sahu said that many areas in this part of the city struggled to get a motorized road.
Sahu has submitted a proposal for the construction of macadam bonded water (WBM) or Jalan Kuccha in many areas under the prabhag.
He said getting the WBM road offered assistance to people living in areas such as Laxmi Nagar, Sahakar layout, Vijay Nagar, Radhna housing community, Bharatwada etc.
Corporator Darshni Dhawad Congress was too satisfied to use the Kuccha road in his prabhag consisting of areas under Dabha because of “favoritism” to places represented by the ruling party corporators.
“There are many roads in the city that are overtime.
But in areas like Dabha, we struggle to get funds approved for WBM roads,” said an annoyed Dhawad.
Representatives were selected also show that areas in Hudeshwar and Narsala, which were included in the city limits, were lucky, thanks to former Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawansule.
Many Kuccha roads in these two areas are not only converted into road tar, but many are converted and more in the pipeline.
It shows that the area on the outside of the city, which does not have an influential selected representative, suffers for a longer period of time due to lack of civil facilities, especially road infrastructure.
“These roads are mostly in less developed areas with fewer houses and generally located on the outskirts of the city,” said a senior official from the NMC Public Works Department.
