CHENNAI: Chennai’s day fever on Wednesday spanned 40 degrees Celsius for the first time in May. The temperature climbed because of the incoming dry northwesterly winds following cyclone Yaas moved northwards and created a landfall at Odisha. This had been the second time this season the town fever has surpassed 40 degrees Celsius. Formerly, Nungambakkam listed 41.2 degrees Celsius on April 2, 2021. Weathermen said greatest temperatures will move up a level or two above normal at least to the following two days. On Wednesday, Nungambakkam weather channel listed 40.3 degrees Celsius and Meenambakkam 39.5 degrees Celsius, that have been 2.5 degrees Celsius and 0.6 degrees Celsius above normal. Humidity was 39% and 43 percent in the channels. An IMD official stated this resulted from the dry northwesterly winds moving to the city resulting in an increase in temperatures and fall in humidity levels. The IMD has predicted minimum and maximum temperatures to float about 38 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius for your subsequent 48 hours, along with partially cloudy skies conditions. The average maximum temperatures from town to the month of May will be 37.1 degrees Celsius. Weather writer Pradeep John stated that until Wednesday, the highest temperatures recorded in town this month has been under 38 degrees Celsius. “Northwesterlies continue Thursday also, so day temperatures could be previously,” he explained.
