Gurgaon: A day after MCG officials claimed that there are no takers for the refuse derived fuel (RDF) and compost produced at the Bandhwari landfill site, commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja on Thursday instructed them to find an alternative site to shift the processed waste from there.
He also directed officials to reclaim 10 acres of land by October this year, required to set up a waste-to-energy plant.
“An alternative site should be identified to shift RDF and compost of the Bandhwari plant.
The capacity of existing trommels should be increased so that they can process more waste at Bandhwari and the waste is processed in a time-bound manner.
Our focus should be on taking steps towards setting up the waste-to-energy plant,” the commissioner said at a meeting between the Ecogreen and MCG officials.
The Ecogreen representatives said that the shifting of RDF and compost to some other site from Bandhwari will create space for the trommels to process waste in full capacity.
Moreover, the Ecogreen representatives explained the process of door-to-door collection and transportation to the Bandhwari landfill site.
The representatives said that they have deployed vehicles in each ward for door-to-door collection of waste.
The civic body, in December last year, asked Ecogreen to submit its reclamation plan of land by treatment of leachate and legacy waste.
The proposed land for the waste-to-energy plant in Bandhwari is occupied by leachate storage ponds, legacy waste and trommels at the site, which needs to be cleared to establish the plant.
The MCG will also have to allot land for the processing of fresh municipal solid waste to lessen the burden on Bandhwari, where waste of both Gurgaon and Faridabad is transported.
As per a report submitted by the civic body to the National Green Tribunal, around 1,800 tonnes of fresh municipal solid waste is being transported every day to the landfill site, spread across an area of nearly 30 acres.
Last year, the MCG identified an alternative site at Karoli village in Nuh to dispose of fresh waste of the city, however, the plan could not be executed due to objections raised by the villagers.
