Pune: Two people sitting in the 20-year-old PMPML bus holder, opposite SGS Mall at Camp, were injured after the structure collapsed at 1pm on Tuesday.
The Dongale Prahlad sub-inspector from the Cantonment police told Ti that one of the two men, Devendra Shamsher Shinde (52) from Jalan Nibm, suffered an injury to the shoulder, back and his hands.
Others, Santosh Shamrao Kambol (40), an ordinary worker from Koregaon Bhima, was injured in his hands and legs.
“Shinde was undergoing treatment at Sassoon General Hospital, while Kambol was treated and dismissed from the same hospital around 7pm on Tuesday,” Dongale said.
Fortunately, no one passed on the pedestrian path in front of the structure, police said.
The road for pedestrians falls under the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB), while the CarrieGeway in front comes in Ambit Pune Municipal Corporation.
As a result, there is no direct clarity about which body must be responsible for the maintenance of the structure.
Dongale, who is investigating this case, quoting a place inspection and said, “Steel bars that support the structure from behind are used and damaged by corrosion due to years.
We have taken photos as evidence and will verify all details before setting responsibility and registering The case for the incident.
For now, we have registered an accident case, “he said.
The police have also requested Pune Cantonment officials to conduct a structural audit of all civil bus shelter places within its boundaries and submit a report a week.
“We have asked Pune Mahamandal Mahamandal Mahamandal to do the same in the PMC limit,” said Dongale further.
A senior PMPML official told Tii that the bus shelter was installed about 20 years ago based on ‘Build-operate-Transfer’ ‘.
“Income from advertisements in the bus shelter went to PCB, so the council was responsible for the maintenance of shelter,” the official said.
“Our officials visited Sassoon Hosps to check injured.
We saw this problem,” the official said next.
