Civic’s body to set GPS-based control space to increase SWM

Nagpur: To improve garbage collection to doors, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to establish a GPS-based control room in all 10 zonal offices.
“The control room activated by GPS will not only track garbage collection vehicles but will also maintain an examination on the movement of sanitation workers,” said Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Bhagat told toi.
“Second Sanitary-based GPS-based watches and garbage transport vehicles that support GPS will be integrated in the control room,” he said.
On Monday, the additional city commissioner of Ram Joshi and Bhagat held a meeting with the Solid Waste Management Zone Team, including health workers and sanitation inspectors.
Nearly two years after NMC replaced Kindergarten Management Limited with two new companies – AG Environ and BVG India, garbage collection doors to doors had deteriorated rather than improving.
Toi has continuously highlighted the condition of poor solid waste management in the city.
“Even the flying squad formed by Commissioner of the City of Radhakrishnan B to examine all 10 zones supported that garbage gathering-to-door gloomy doors in many regions,” said Bhagat.
In many places, the garbage collector does not make daily visits and waste collected twice or three times a week, he said.
Many residents also expressed concern for the time of the vehicle of garbage collectors.
According to people’s feedback, Laxmi Nagar and Dhantoli residents wanted a garbage collection vehicle early in the morning, while other zone residents prefer vehicles after 9am.
The disorder in garbage collection from the door to the door, the discomfort of the citizen timings and black spots in the city has increased, admit Bhagat.
“The problem of garbage collections that fall short also arrived in the future.
NMC has asked Ag and BVG – two garbage collection companies – to improve garbage collection vehicles 20,” said Bhagat.
At present, AG has 201 vehicles, excludes 72 rickshaws, while BVG has a 198 vehicle fleet and 115 pedicabs.
The pedicab is used to discuss most slums and traffic jams throughout the city, including itwari, expensive and Gandhibagh.
“With the control room, the NMC will save the tab on the movement of all the garbage transport vehicles in all 10 zones,” he said.
Payment to both contractors will be associated with feedback from the control room.
The control room will also track sanitation workers from their respective zones.
This will be done with the help of GPS-based watches given to them.
At present, sanitation workers only sweep the streets given to them.
NMC has also decided to take advantage of 7,000 odd sanitation people to clean street dividers, paths, playgrounds, parks etc., he said.
NMC will also tighten the snare around irregular sanitation workers.
