Patna: To mark a free day of international plastic bags, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Saturday launched a campaign to make the city free of sales and use of plastic carrying bags.
Patna Mayor Sita Sahu marked the campaign along with Commissioner of the City of Himanshu Sharma and distributed a carry bag made by women under the mission of the Minifiood Mission Antyodaya Yojana-National (Day-Nulma).
The mayor appealed to people to use cloth bags, not plastic carrying bags.
Sahu said people can donate plastic and old waste materials to civilian bodies and get a cloth bag in return.
“Waste and old items provided by residents will be recycled.
Plastic bags are used for only 25 minutes and unfortunately it takes at least 1,000 years for one plastic to decompose.
But plastic, pollute the earth in just a few minutes,” he said.
Himanshu said a team had been formed under the day-nulma to make interesting bags and can be reused from wastewear.
“On behalf of PMC, these women’s volunteers will install emergency kiosks at the six Circle Kota – Azimabad, Bankipore, Kankarbagh, New Capital, Patliputra and Patna City – every Sunday to show off bags, doormats, and other decorative items Made of waste material, “he said.
Himanshu added, “In this way, we will be able to provide employment opportunities to women and make the city free of plastic bags.” Kota Commissioner said PMC had worked on various projects under solid waste management projects to reduce city pollution levels.
“The waste separation factory with a capacity of 150 tons per day will be arranged in the city, where all types of waste will be separated through labor and machinery.
Along with this, the 8-ton processing unit is being prepared by Cipet, which is a signed MoU,” said Himanshu.
