CJI expressed displeasure rather than lawyers using cellphones for virtual hearing

New Delhi: Chairman of Indian Justice (CJI) on Monday expressed displeasure of lawyers who attended virtual hearings through their cellphones when the device complicated the judge to hear or see advocates during the audience.
Cji Ramana asked advocates to use a laptop and desktop while appearing in terms through video conferencing before the court and avoid using cellphones.
“This advice appears through their cellphones and they are not visible.
I think we should prohibit this cellular business.
This has happened since the morning itself, we are exhausted in 10 cases.
Please understand, lawyers practice at the Supreme Court, the High Court, what’s the problem? Why can’t you use iPad, laptop, desktop or something? “Cji commented.
The CJI bench said he had faced difficulties in hearing or saw advocates when they appeared through the cellphone.
Before going up from the bench, Cji told court staff, “You can please ask for advice to use a desktop or laptop, and not a cellphone.
We face a lot of problems.
Don’t let go but tell them there is a problem in hearing via cellphone.” Given the number of Covid cases -19, the APEX court on January 2 decided to switch to the virtual audience system from January 3 for two weeks given the increased omicron variants of Covid-19 cases.
Suspending physical and hybrid options from the trial, the peak court decided to shift to complete virtual hearing for two weeks.
The statement issued by the court above, who has started a physical audience from October 7, said the virtual process setting will continue for two weeks.
With another circular, the upper court judge decided to work from their housing office.
