NEW DELHI: In light of the cloudy conditions caused by this Covid-19 outbreak and the comments obtained by the many stakeholders, the Centre on Tuesday chose to cancel the CBSE Class XII board examinations for 2021.
Following the government’s determination to cancel CBSE board examinations, the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ISCE) also cancelled its Class XII board examinations for this season, stating that a strategy for assessing the pupils will be declared shortly.
The choice to offset the CBSE Class XII board examinations was taken at a review interview on Tuesday which has been chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a report, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated,”The Prime Minister chaired a critique interview about the Class XII board examinations of CBSE.
Officials gave a comprehensive presentation about the broad and comprehensive consultation held so much and views obtained from each of the stakeholders, for example, state authorities.
“In light of the cloudy conditions because of Covid along with the comments obtained by the many stakeholders, it had been determined that the Class XII board examinations wouldn’t be held annually.
It was decided that CBSE will require action to compile the outcomes of Class XII students according to a well-defined goal criteria in an time-bound way.”
From the interview the Prime Minister stated that the choice on Class XII CBSE examinations was accepted from the interest of their pupils, including that Covid-19 has changed the academic calendar and also the dilemma of board examinations was causing massive anxiety among the pupils, teachers and parents, which needed to come to a conclusion.
The Prime Minister stated that the Covid scenario is a dynamic scenario throughout the nation.
Even though the figures are still coming down and a few nations are handling the situation via successful micro-containment steps, some countries have chosen for lockdowns.
The pupils, teachers and parents are naturally concerned about the wellness of the pupils in this kind of circumstance, Modi said, adding that the pupils shouldn’t be made to look for examinations in this stressful circumstance.
The Prime Minister emphasized the health and security of the pupils are of extreme significance and there would not be any compromise with this aspect.
He explained that in the time, these examinations cannot possibly be the motive to place the childhood of the nation in danger.
The Prime Minister stated that the stakeholders will need to demonstrate sensitivity for those pupils, as he led the officers to make sure the outcomes are ready in compliance with standards that were tolerable, at a just and time-bound way.
Referring to this broad consultative procedure, Modi expressed admiration a student-friendly conclusion was reached after consulting the stakeholders from throughout the length and breadth of the nation.
In addition, he thanked the countries for providing valuable comments on this matter.
Even the Prime Minister had previously held a high level assembly on the subject on May 21, that had been attended by the ministers and concerned officials.
Then, a meeting under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has been held May 23.
A variety of possibilities for running the CBSE examinations were discussed at the assembly and comments was obtained in both states and UTs.
Tuesday’s meeting was attended by Union Ministers of Home, Defence, Finance, Commerce, Information & Broadcasting, Petroleum and Women & Child Development ministries, the Chief Secretary to the PM, Cabinet Secretary and Secretaries of School Education & Higher Education Departments, among other officers.
