Class XI admissions: TN reverses decision

CHENNAI: A day after allowing schools to conduct tests for allotting groups to Class XI students, the Tamil Nadu school education department on Wednesday reversed its decision and asked the schools to enrol students based on Class IX marks and interest of students if they receive more applications than the available seats.
In a fresh circular, school education commissioner K Nanthakumar said there was no need to conduct test based on Class X lessons to allot groups.
The state government cancelled the Class X exams due to Covid-19.
In the absence of common exams such as quarterly exams and half yearly exams, the department issued new guidelines for Class XI admissions on Tuesday.
The guidelines asked them to prepare 50 multiple-choice based questions from relevant subjects in lower classes.
The department also allowed to increase 10% to 15% seats in each stream in Class XI in government and government-aided schools if the applications are more than the available seats.
The circular asked the schools to commence online classes for Class XI in the third week of June by following the Covid-19 guidelines.
