Climate change is not a futuristic phenomenon, it’s experienced, said Vice President

PUDUCHERRY: “Climate change is not a futuristic phenomenon and we have experienced it,” Venkaah Naidu Vice President said.
Inaugurating a 2.4 megawatt solar power plant at the Pondicherry Central University here on Monday, he said, “the next few years will be very important for our collective actions to reduce climate change.” He said green energy such as the sun, wind and water offered a decent alternative to meet the growing energy needs.
Naidu, on a two-day visit to Puducherry, the word solar energy has shown a promise in recent years.
Preferences for solar plants and solar energy over other energy sources are a welcome sign.
Even though there are positive aspects of solar power, there are some structural problems that inhibit solar growth, he said.
The biggest problem is the lack of domestic solar cell manufacturing and solar modules, which are still imported and used by Indian companies to make panels, he said.
Universities such as Varsity Pondicherry must take work and research projects that have renewable energy components and must encourage students to take the final year and internships in the field of renewable energy and material science, he said.
Lieutenant Governor of Puduchherry Tamilisai Soundararajan, Minister for Minister of Rangasamy, speaker of Majelis R Selvam, representative of Chancellor Pondicherry University of Gurmet Singh and Puducherry legislators are among them.
