MEERUT: One of the most famous car-breaking spare parts markets and stolen cars in India, Sotigan in Meerutj, closed on Sunday after a massive crackdown by the police.
The police serve notifications under Section 91 CRPC to shops to submit GST notes and documents, which many people do not have.
The closure of the famous market that sees the car – from the most expensive to the cheapest – brought from Delhi, NCR and many other parts of the country come shortly after the arrest of two illegal kingpins, Haji Galla and Haji Iqbal.
The market has more than 300 stores and employs more than 1,000 people.
Traders told Toi on Sunday that they were all asked to close the store until the order further.
“We have identified 100 shops in the market involved in illegal trade.
We will not let them access any items until they send stock details,” said Senior Police Supervisor (SSP) from Meerut Prabhakar Chaudhary.
The instructions are given verbally by the Station House Officer (Sho) from conscious Bazaar, the trader said.
To maintain peace and order after the announcement, which led to extensive dissatisfaction, more than 200 police conducted a flag parade on the market in the afternoon.
“We will talk to the police on Monday.
Traders should not be harassed like this.
Many of them are original and have all the details of the GST and stock.
Only a few are illegal trade and crackdown should only be limited to them,” Pandit Pandit Ashu Sharma, Carrier of Passchim Office Uttar Pradesh Vyapar Mandal.
Some traders worried about producing documents they say difficult to collect.
“The police asked us to show documents that most of us did not have.
Basically it asked us to close the store,” said a trader who did not want to be named.
“It will only increase crime in the city because all those employed here will now become unemployed.” The Sotiganj market became famous in the 1990s for the illegally stolen trade memo of the cars dismantled, at that time most of the NCR region.
Expanded operation later.
The police have intensified their hard actions on the market for the past three months.
The two top kingpin of illegal trade, Galla and Iqbal, were arrested and their properties were attached.
The market has joined in size over the past few years.
Those who have large shops have become some property owners throughout the country.
