Cluster Ourbreak: Nitk Switch to Online Mode

Mangaluru: Premier Nitk Technical Institute, Kapaykal has completely shifted into online mode after his campus watched the cluster outbreak from the Covid-19 case.
Only laboratories are opened for BTECH, MTECH, and final PhD scholars now.
According to Narendranath S, the Dean of Student Affairs, in the gap two weeks, 100 students have been tested positively and some have recovered.
District administration has made adequate arrangements for quarantine and isolate positive students.
Meanwhile, daily testing was carried out throughout the campus by a local primary health center in Kapathkal.
At present this is the largest Covid-19 cluster in Dakshina Kannada among educational institutions.
Narendranath told TOI that currently there are around 60 active cases and the rest has recovered and testing is done every day.
The majority of those who have tested positively do not have or have mild symptoms.
At present, the campus has around 1,000 students and they gradually returned home after they tested the negative for Covid-19.
Campus reporting cluster outbreaks have come as a big blow for institutions that are reopened for offline classes after one and a half years gap.
Except for the first and second year batch, all other students have returned to campus conducting normal activities.
All are made to strictly follow all the behavior that matches Covid.
Students are not permitted out of campus except emergency reasons.
When asked about any student with the history of international travel, Narendranath said students admitted that under direct receipt of abroad students (Dasa) came from various parts of the world.
Including Dasa, the students from other parts of India were permitted to enter the campus only after producing negative Covid-19 reports.
After the campus opened for offline classes, only online classes were held for BTECH students first and second years.
Umaheshwar Rao Director, Nitk, Kapaykal said the class had turned to online mode for all streams.
Only open laboratories for BTECH, MTECH and second research scholars on campus.
“We are now not sure when we will switch to offline classes,” he said.
