Mumbai: Head of Maharashtra Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday took the preparation of readiness by various government institutions to overcome emergencies with the IMD estimated severe wet spells for the next few days and issued an orange warning for Mumbai and the coast of Conkai.
Thackeray directed agents to remain more alert and asked the authorities to oversee the areas that were prone to landslides and dilapidated buildings, the head of the minister’s office (CMO) in a statement.
The minister’s chairman reviewed the situation arising from heavy rain which pounded Mumbai and neighboring areas last night on Saturday, he said.
CM said electricity companies must remain cautious because the tension tower is located around many residential areas.
“The underground area must also be cleaned given that the water purification center located in Bhandup on the outskirts of Mumbai is flooded with rain,” the release quoted cm.
The minister’s chairman directs the authority to ensure that health workers in downtown Covid-19 and field hospitals are stored in standby and the steps are taken to ensure there is no dissemination of diseases transmitted through water.
Twenty-five people were killed in the incident related to rain when heavy rains that were relentless overnight during the main storm storm hit Mumbai, causing severe water logging and traffic disturbances in financial capital on Sundays, officials said.
Mumbai Civic Chief Iqbal Singh Chahal, who also attended the meeting, said city workers and officers were on duty all the time.
Meanwhile, Jayanta Sarkar from the Indian Meteorology Department said the meeting that “Orange warning” was issued for Mumbai and the coast of Konkan for the next five days.
As expected, the wind might blow speeds of 50 to 60 km per hour.
Heavy rain is expected on July 23 too, the department said.
