Kolkata: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee wrote to PM Narendra Modi on Thursday said Bengal stared at a gloomy situation if the center did not provide adequate vaccine equipment to the country, showing a surge in Covid cases recently in Sikkim, Assam and the Northeast and Northeast Northeast .
Questioning why less populated countries get more vaccines, Banerjee argues that “special prevention steps” must be taken for Bengal because of sharing three international borders and is the door of the northeastern city.
Bengal needs 14 doses of crore and only receives 2.6 doses of crore, cm added.
“I apologize to say the central government provides a large number of vaccine doses to declare such as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka, which are ruled by BJP.
I have no problem if they or other countries for it to receive a higher number of vaccine doses, but me Cannot remain a mute audience to see the bengal seized, “Banerjee wrote.
CM has raised this problem when he met PM in New Delhi on July 27.
In a reply to TMC MP Mala Roy, the Ministry of Health Union also received information on Lok Sabha that Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Karnataka have received more vaccines than Bengal from January to June this year.
In accordance with the 2021 election data, Bengal has a 7.3 crore population over 18 years of eligible for vaccination and therefore a 14-crore dose is sought by CM.
Banerjee added: “At present, we give 4 doses of lakh per day and are able to provide 11 doses of lakh per day.
However, we get a much lower number of doses even though it has a very high population density and a higher level of urbanization.” Cm said Bengal has provided 3 doses of crore to date, where 2.2 crores have been given the first dose and 88.9 lakh people with the second dose.
“You will be happy to note that the covid front level in Bengal, which increased from 3% (March 202.) to 33% (April-May 2021) because the election of the 8-phase assembly in this country is now down to 1.5.% Because of our sustainable efforts, “he added.
“Even after the destruction caused by the second wave, the center has not increased the supply of vaccines to the state of the war to fight the waves of the future.
As a result, thousands of innocent people are still influenced every day,” Banerjee wrote.
