Coimbatore: Corporation City’s efforts to drive parts of the occupants from CMC Colony and Clear Space to continue the work of Flyover Ukkadam in vain on Thursday, because the population is contrary to the steps.
While corporate officials said alternative accommodation were allocated for all families, residents alleged that some of them were abandoned from the loop survey as part of the elevated project.
“At least 737 families are on the ground which will be acquired by the Highways department.
Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) has decided to accommodate around 492 families in the housing unit proposed to build in the colony themselves and the remaining families in other housing units.
“It should be noted that every time the TNSCB reconstructs the housing unit, it will provide a one-time displacement fee of Rs8,000 per family for temporary relocation.
“To make easy relocation for residents, the opposite must hunt for rent, the highway department has built a temporary shelter for them on corporate land in Pullukadu.
While 247 families will be accommodated there, the remaining families have agreed to remain with their relatives Settlement of housing units, “said the source.
Seeing that around 70% of families have emptied their homes, the source said the corporate officials visited by the colony on Thursday to notify the remaining families to empty their home earliest, because elevated work had stopped due to the delay in acquisition of land.
“The residents, however, protested who stated that some of them were abandoned from the survey.
Officials held talks with them and left the area.” Jothi, a resident of CMC Colony, said 55 families who need a temporary shelter abandoned from the survey.
“Officials had told us that they would visit the colony just to hold talks with us.
But on Thursday morning, they took off the door of a house and asked us to empty immediately.
That’s why we did sit-in.” Other residents say they are.
Ready to immediately empty if all families are provided alternative accommodation.
“Then, we are ready to extend 100% cooperation to officials.”
