Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) Pointed Country Plan for Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in Madurai.
This body recently floated the tender to assign consultants to prepare a feasibility study.
During the cage session earlier this year, the government said the feasibility study would be carried out and reports were delivered to build a metro train network in Madurai.
The company assigned to conduct studies may have to submit a report in 120 days.
Officials said this study would involve identifying routes where modern transit networks would be built and analyzed the feasibility of building a metro rail network or other alternative options based on passenger traffic movements and travel requests.
According to the tender document, the assigned consultant must examine previous study reports, plans, CMP reports and other related transportation scenarios from Metropolitan Madurai, collecting data on primary transportation network inventory along with utilities in the project’s influence area.
Consultants may also have to collect all secondary information such as development plans, public transport routes and conduct a review of the current situation to establish existing public transportation conditions and capacities.
Efforts to build a transit mass system in Madurai came when the government had set a CMRL deadline to complete the 118.9km phase network in Chennai in December 2026.
The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is one of the industrial bodies that has been urgent For the Metro Madurai Metro project, welcome to move.
“It must connect the four directions from Melur to Thirtumangalam and from Thirupuvanam to Checkanurani to meet the growing needs of the city that is jammed at least for the next 20 years with the city’s master plan,” said President N Jegathean.
