Udhagamandalam: The first customary coal grilled locomotive, which was taken to the Mettupalayam train station from the Golden Rock Railway Workshop on Sunday, underwent a successful trial successfully in the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) part between Mettupalayam and Back, covering a distance of around 26km, on Tuesday.
“Coal-fueled locomotives will have some trials on the NMR section.
Today, the engine with two coaches drank for Adery, a distance of 13 km from Mettupalayam, and returned.
The new locomotive did not find technical obstacles,” said an official with the Salem Railway Division of South .
More trials will be held by increasing distance, the official said.
After coal-fueled locomotives meet all the specified technical norms, it will be operated between Ooty and coonor regularly.
The new locomotive is likely to undergo another trial on Wednesday, when it will dismiss to Hillgrove, covering a distance of 18 km from Mettupalayam.
