Coimbatore: Faculty members from the PSG College of Technology have developed a running and falling style monitoring device that can be used, which they have named Gait Watch.
Developed by the research team at the center for aid technology solutions and rehabilitation (PSG-Cares), devices can be used to filter patients with geriatric, neurological or orthopedic conditions for their stability problems, which can be in a timely prevent them from falling close.
It is designed for parents and people who suffer from disturbances related to movement.
LS Jayashree, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, who is the main investigator, said, “Falls is the main cause of morbidity and disability in parents.
More than a third of the population aged 65 years and over falling every year and repeated between them.” He said the fall was usually caused by factors such as neuromuscular degenerative disorders, weakness due to aging, running styles, and cognitive disorders.
“Gait Watch is designed to estimate a risk score of falling an individual, taking into account all possible factors, including the characteristics of a spatio-temporal style, through the trial session.
