Coimbatore: D Vijayagiri, a private surgeon based in Mettupalayam, was honored by the coimbatore collector G s as openly on the occasion of independence day on Sunday to provide selfless service to the public.
The Public Health Department has given Vijayagiri, a pediatric and laparoscopic surgeon who runs the SGK Hospital in Mettupalayam, permission to carry out operations at the Government Hospital as an honor surgeon.
He has done more than 50 operations in the past three years and has trained young surgeons at the Mettupalayam government hospital, which is now famous as a training center for laparoscopic surgeons.
Vijayagiri was given a certificate of praise for its performance during the pandemic Covid-19 and to guide the young doctor GH.
As president of the Rotary Club Mettupalayam for 2019-20, Vijayagiri played a role in installing a 15-bed post-operative treatment unit and a Digital X-ray unit worth Rs 40 Lakh at GH.
“This helps us to do complicated operations, instead of referring to patients for Coimbatore Medical College Hospital,” said Dr Kannan, Chief Medical Officer of the GH.
“People from Polarchi and suburban areas visit GH for surgery.

The collector has noticed Vijayagiri after he performed the first hepatic specialization operation at GH in June, saved the life of a four-year-old girl.
