Coimbatore: Lynched Village residents of a guest worker who tried to steal electrical cables and steel items from home near Boluvampatti in Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday’s early hours.
Police sources said guest workers knocked on the door of a house located on agricultural land in Chittirachavadi.
The agricultural land belongs to Kalipan.
His son Vishwanathan and son-in-law of Sambathkumar stayed at home.
Duo came out of the house to check the person who knocked on the door.
The man is looking for water.
When they go inside to take water, the man tries to steal an electric cable and steel items.
The duo arrested the man, tied him to the tree and struggled.
Immediately other people who lived in the area reached there and joined the duo struggling.
They also told Alandurai police.
Special Sub-Inspector of Kanagaraj Police, who patrolled the area, was told.
Kanagaraj reached the place around 2.30 in the morning.
Thieves can only speak Hindi, which cannot be understood by police officers.
Because the man was under the influence of alcohol, Kanagaraj told the villagers that he would return in the morning to take him to the station.
He asked them to protect him until then.
When the police arrived in the morning, the man was not found there.
The police were told that the thief escaped early in the morning.
The police received information from the administrative officer of the village of Buruvampatti M Shankar on Tuesday that a body was found on the Noyyal River.
A team from the Alandurai police station and fire personnel and rescue took the body and sent it to a government hospital for postmortem.
The police source said that some deep injuries were found above the victim’s head.
The police registered the case below Section 174 (suspicious death) from the CRPC.
The police request revealed that the man was the person captured by the villagers.
Investigations with villagers revealed that guest workers died after police officers left the place.
They dumped the body in the water.
Refused Range Deputy Police Supervisory V V Thirumal said that this case was changed to 302 IPC (punishment for murder) and 10 people had been secured.
