Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital conducts lobectomy surgery to save a 37-year-old man

Coimbatore: The team of doctors from the Cardiothoracic Department of the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) has saved the life of a 37-year-old patient by releasing parts of his left lungs that are infected with mucorikosis.
The lower lobe, which is around 40% of the left lung, is removed by surgical procedures so that it prevents the infection of deployment to other organs.
“While lobectomy (removal of organ lobe surgery) is carried out for patients with TB and fibrosis, this is the first time it is done for mukormycosis in CMCH,” said the Dean of the Nirmala Hospital.
He said Musormycosis had a systematic spread.
If you enter the blood vessels through the lungs, the possibility of infection spread to other nearby organs is very high.
To prevent such conditions, lobectomy procedures are very important in this case.
The team consisted of five doctors led by Dr.
E Seerinivasan, Head of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, who carried out operations on September 30 and patients stable.
Patients, L Govindharajan, 37, Mettur in Salem District, were treated at a private hospital in Coimbatore for Covid-19 treatment in April this year.
Diabetes Mellitus case is known, it has a high level of lung involvement from Covid-19 (Corads 5).
While he was dismissed after treatment for Covid-19, he was again treated at a private hospital in Salem a few days ago after Hemoptisis complaints (blood cough).
The patient was found to have a lobe under his left lung was infected with mukormycosis.
After being diagnosed with mukormycosis, the patient was referred to CMC, where the doctor in the cardiothoracic surgical department found that mukormycosis had completely damaged the bottom of the lungs.
Infection can erode the other closest organs and lures that pose a threat to their lives, said Dr.
e like.
To save his life, infection to other parts of the body must be prevented and removing the bottom of the left lung is the only choice available, he said.
Patients are fine after surgery carried out under the chairman of the Minister of Comprehensive Health Insurance scheme.
The same surgery will cost around Rs 3-5 lakh in private facilities, said Dean.
