Coimbatore: Detective Directorate of Precautions and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Friday captured Coimbatore North Tahsildar K Gokilakeani, 51, while taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a man to issue a certificate of solvency.
According to sources, M Chinnaraj, 61, has served as vice president of Naickalayam Pancanda Village.
He is a member of the State General Body of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.
He is also a RTI activist.

After a Pongal vacation, Chinnaraj visited the North Coimbatore Taluk office to get a solvency certificate.
He was asked to pay Rs 6,000 to issue a certificate.
He paid the amount to the government.
But he was not given a certificate.
Other income department officials asked him to approach Tahsildar Gokilamanani to get a certificate.
Meanwhile PaniyayanenickaPalayam City Panciranayam delayed the auction of shops.
“I approached Gokilakeani.
He demanded Rs 25,000 in cash as bribes to issue a solvency certificate.
I oppose bribery and corruption.
So, I approached DVAC officials who put a trap,” said Chinnaraj.
He visited the North Taluk Office Coimbatore on Friday afternoon and met Tahsildar Gokilamanani.
He handed over RS 25,000 in cash, mixed with Phenolfthalein powder, to him.
Tahildar accepted bribes, and Chinnaraj reminded DVAC officials who rushed to his room and arrested him with red hands while accepting bribes.
Officials captured the number of him.
Fenolfthalein test is done, and it’s positive.
He will be produced before a special court for the DVAC court.
