Coimbatore: The Ministry of Defense plans to build a parallel taxi lane at the Air Force tendril station to ensure operations without obstacles if the runway is attacked during the war.
Parallel taxi lanes operations are very challenging when the plane must land and take off from a shorter track than the main runway.
The Ministry of Defense has asked the state government for 200 hectares to build parallel taxi lines and other 200 hectares for weapons depots planned at the IAF base.
Depot weapons are planned beforehand because there are no facilities like that in the South Air Command, which includes a large area including Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Islands and Nicobar.
And, according to the sources that speak with anonymous requirements, the income department has identified 400 hectares in Kangeyampalayam Village, Appanacedapti and Chalangal in Tulang Taluk for this purpose.
Detailed proposals have been sent to the commissionative Administration Office (CLA), Chennai.
The Ministry of Defense will bear the costs for land acquisition.
Sources added that once the state government gave administrative sanctions and if the Defense Ministry agreed to the region limited, district revenue infinite officers (DRO) would be appointed by the district administration for land acquisition.
“We are waiting for a reply from the Ministry of Defense in connection with the acquisition of land,” said an official from the income department.
