Coimbatore: Two more trees are cut down illegally on the Mettupalayam road

Coimbatore: Residents along Mettupalayamroad approached VelPinar accused two minimum 5 years old trees and 15 feet downgraded by unknown people in the past week.
When Tii visited the place next to Umadevi Hospital, only half the foot of the tree left on the ground.
People who live in the area state that this is not the first time a tree cut down without the knowledge of national highway authorities or income officials.
In September last year, more than five trees were cut.
After this, residents urged road officials to check illegal tree logging and take steps to protect them.
A resident said that the previous highway department had moved trees to expand the road, however, puppies were planted again.
“The tillers have now grown into a tree and are under threat,” he said.
Others G Selvavel said, “It should cut trees at night.” The Secretary of the Coimbatore District Road Protection Association M Devendran said seven trees were illegally cut last year.
“Highway officials must act immediately and submit police complaints.
They must ensure that tight actions are taken towards such practice,” he said.
An official from the National Highway Department, when contacted, said that they had not received previous complaints.
He assured that the place would be examined soon and the appropriate actions would be taken.
