Coimbatory: A woman, 36, who won the 7.2-sovereign gold chain from the female shop owner on the 7th extension at Rathinapuri on Friday after spraying it with insecticides captured after the owner offered resistance and lifting alarms.
The police identified the defendant as Thavamani aka Deivanathi.
According to an investigative officer, Thavamani visited the shop on Friday night with the pretext of buying some gift items.
“He chose a gift and asked the shop owner, 57 years C Selvarani, to wrap the same thing.
When he wrapped Manithe’s prize, Thavamanivamani sprayed insecticides on his face and grabbed the gold chain.” Selvarani tried to catch the woman, but she managed to escape.
“He lifted an alarm and neighbors chasing Thavamani and arrested him.
They then handed it to us,” the officer said.
Police restored the chain of Thavamani which was produced in front of a court that sent him a prison.
Meanwhile, the CCTV camera footage from this incident became a viral on social media on Saturday.
Police said Thavamani was involved in several crimes in the district and other parts of the country.
