Coimbatore’s Victoria Hall is being renovated

Coimbatore: Building Victoria Hall in Coimbatore is being renovated to accommodate the Corporation City Board after the urban local body election ends.
The hall has seating capacity for only 72 board members.
Because the city was expanded to 100 wards by other cities and city Panchayats, engineers worked to accommodate 100 board members by making some adjustments in the building.
Official said even though the room would be narrow, it would be managed.
Apart from the seating setting, renovation of roof tiles, paintings and sprucing electrical lines is being carried out.
Landscaping works to beautify the environment will also be done, said an engineer.
“Victoria Hall underwent a 2014 pine tree.
Only painting and some small repair work was done at that time.
The structure has problems such as water leakage, which has been handled now,” he said.
This structure was built in 1892 in honor of Queen Victoria.
The building has accommodated the city council meeting until 1953.
The library that functions there between 1953 and 1986.
Then, it was used as a storage room.
In the early 1990s, there was a plan to destroy the building.
Then, the local body is supported after demands from various quarters.
The structure was restored in 1992 at a cost of Rs 15 Lakh.
