Collectors take stock of airport expansion work

Coimbatore: A team of officials led by G S SS SSEAN District collector checks the land that will be obtained for expansion of city airports, where the district administration has recently been written to the state government to allocate funds, on Wednesday.
This is SameRan’s first visit to the land intended for airport expansion after taking over as a district collector.
The previous collector has held a meeting with the Director of the Airport S Senthil Valavan to discuss various obstacles to delay projects and solutions for the same.
The airport director said the landowner to be obtained requested an alternative road around the airport.
While income officials find solutions, he said, collectors have seen into possibilities.
Sameran also discussed the possibility of CSR funds for solid waste management plants in ChinniyamPlayam.
“The airport expansion work will begin immediately after the settlement of land acquisition,” said Senthil Valavan.
The expansion project requires the acquisition of 627.89 hectares of land, including 134.2 hectares of defense land and 28 hectares (porambo) land, which fall below 24 blocks.
While the state government has gave sanctions RS 263 Crore for land acquisition, the district administration was reported to only use RS 168 Crore to pay off landowners.
