College Low Attendance: Bengal Looking for Daily Reports

Kolkata: The education department has requested the details of the presence of students and teachers who attend the physical class on campus and the number of Covid-19 cases from universities that have begun to teach offline.
Daily reports must be submitted at 11:30 a.m.
every day.
According to the Ministry of Education officials, this exercise was carried out to track how many students, teachers and non-teaching staff visited campus every day.
It will also help the department oversee the Covid situation.
Since the campus was reopened last week after more than a month from the closing of the third wave induced, the presence in most universities was very low.
In many streams, less than 15% of batch strength has attended class.
Most students still attend online classes and are reluctant to return to campus for various reasons.
“The Ministry of Education has searched for the number of teachers and students in the institutions and the number of those who attend offline classes on campus every day.

The principal has also been asked to submit the number of Covid cases, “said a department official.
Universities and colleges have begun to reopen hostels so that students outstation can return to the city and start attending offline classes.

“Logistics cannot be impossible for higher education institutions to submit this data in the morning every day because there are so many courses, flow and batches.
Many colleges and universities have several shifts.
So it is impossible to send a report at 11:30 in the morning,” said the letter.
Parha Pratim Roy from the University of Jadavpur’s teacher association said: “This is an attack on the autonomous status of the university.
There are more urgent problems that must be addressed.”
