Thiruvananthapuram: College in the state, especially the art and science, partly opened for academic activities on Monday after a long closure was brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Many of these campuses have been opened in January after the first Covid wave but suspended offline classes in March because of the second wave of pandemic.
Classes for the end of the year and graduate students begin on Monday while other classes are scheduled to begin on October 18.
More than 99% of college teachers and most students have got two doses of covid vaccines but online classes tend to continue as a pandemic has made a new normal “hybrid” mode.
Daily classes are offered for PG students while UG students will have classes on alternative days.
The government has provided three llot options to college authorities to regulate the class.
He also emphasized the need to conduct a campaign on gender justice and the awareness program on violence against women, while referring to the recent murder of a student by his classmate at Pala.
Large pauses in academic activities, however, remain a major concern.
“The first year’s degree students should now catch their third semester now; they are in the second semester now when they appear for their first semester examination,” said an assistant professor with government universities.
