Colonel Tripathi, who died in Manipur Ambush, was inspired by Grandpa Freedom Fighter

New Delhi: Colonel Viplav Tripathi, Khuga Commander Battali of Assam Rifles, along with his eight-year wife and son was among seven people who were killed in a terrorist ambush in Manipur on Saturday.
Colonel Tripathi, who had previously served in Mizoram to his transfer to Manipur in July 2021, was inspired by the grandfather of his freedom fighters who were also members of the Constituent Assembly.

The attack on Unit Rifles 46 Assam also claimed the life of commander family members.
According to Tokishori Mohan Tripathi died in 1994 when Viplala was 14 years old.
It was his grandfather who inspired Viplav to wear an army uniform, his mother’s uncle (‘Mama’) Rajesh Patnik told PTI here.
Under the leadership of the Tripathi Colonel in Mizoram, the battalion has been at the forefront of border management thwarting illegal smuggling in IMB and Hinterland, a statement issued by Rifles Assam.

Inspired by Grandpa, the Tripathi family came from Raigarh in Chhattisgarh.
“Viplav joined the Indian army with the aim of serving the nation, taking inspiration from his grandfather, a great freedom fighters.
His father, a senior journalist, and his mother, a social activist, also encouraged him.
He had sacrificed his life while serving the country.

Viplala was attached to Kishori Mohan, and even visited Rashtrapati Bhavan with him when Giani Zail Singh was the president, he said.
Born on May 30, 1980, Viplav went to Sainik School Rewa (Madhya Pradesh) after passing class V in a school in the city of Raigarh.
His father, Subhash Tripathi (76) was a senior journalist and a local Hindi Daily Editor ‘Dainik Pay’ and Mrs.
Asha Tripathi was a retired librarian.
After school, Viplav received a ticket to the National Defense Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla and then joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, said Patnaik.
In 2001, he was assigned as a lieutenant in Kumaon regiment in Ranikhet.
He then passed the command course from the Staff of the Soft College (DSSC) Wellington.
Viplav Anay Tripathi’s younger brother, who also studied at the Sainik School Rewa, was also an Army officer, who was now posted as a Colonel lieutenant in Shillong, said Patnik.
“Anay, who had arrived in Raigarh on Friday night, got a shocking news about his brother through his army colleagues around 12:30 today,” said innocent Patnaik.
“The whole family has celebrated Diwali this year in Manipur, where Viplav was posted.
His parents returned to Raigarh on November 6,” he said.
Anay had gone to the headquarters of troops in Kolkata, and the remnants of Fana Viplav, his wife and son would be taken to Raigarh on Sunday, said Patnik.
The gloom down in Raigarh City when the news won, with the locals rushed to his home to express their condolences.
