Kolkata: Close with 1,500 children took the entrance test with Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) at the Ballygunge Army Camp on Sunday, making it the first pen-and-paper test since March 2020 for students between 10 and 14 in the city.
Many candidates arrive from neighboring countries, such as Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, two to three days earlier because the center in Ballygunge is the only place for reception examinations in East India.
Most students take tests between ages 10 and 11 – for class VI – and between the ages of 13 and 14 – class XI.
It is mandatory for all students to use the N95 mask and bring sanitaryers.
Their body temperature was examined at the entrance to the examination center.
Schools and colleges have been closed since March 2020 and have conducted online checks.
Last week, neet, and joint entry exams in July were also carried out in pen-and-paper mode.
“We arrived on Saturday afternoon for the exam because this was the only center for the entire East India,” said Dheeraj Kumar from Bihar Sharif whose son, 10, appeared for the test.
The two-hour examination began at 9 am, but the exam participants were taken in the middle of 7:30 a.m.
“We have to check their temperature and direct them to their room and seat.
It starts early so everything can be done in social minds,” said an official at the inspection center.
While children take the test inside, parents wait on the sidewalk outside.
Many who are tired of traveling don’t even fall asleep in the newspaper.
There are five RMS throughout the country with two in Karnataka, two in Rajasthan and one at Himachal Pradesh.
Common entry tests are carried out once a year in centers in various parts of the country.
“This is a full housing school affiliated with CBSE.
Many parents want their children to learn here because the focus on extra-curricular activities is as much as in academic activities.
This institution prepares a strong foundation and prepares students for tests and defense related courses, “An official said.
