Kolkata: Twenty-one flight was delayed for anything between 35 and 40 minutes and several others were delayed less than half an hour at Kolkata Airport because of heavy rains between 9am and 6pm on Tuesday.
However, there is no cancellation, airport officials clarify.
“A total of 11 departures and 10 arrival flights were postponed between 9am and 6pm due to heavy rains in this part of the city.
The average delay period was between 35 minutes to 40 minutes,” said Airport Director C Pattabhi.
Since morning, the intense storm spell with moderate to heavy rainfall has continued in several parts of the Kolkata and neighboring regions, including the area around Kolkata Airport.
Intensic rain caused a large waterlogging in Jessore Road outside the airport, a stretch of SQ-KM Haldiram at VIP Road and Chinar Park on the main arterial road of the new city, slowing down the airport bound traffic.
Vistara even quickly issued an advisor at 9.44 in the morning, reminding passengers about the water situation outside the airport.
“#TravelUpdate: because of airlogging due to heavy rains in Kolkata, traffic congestion is expected.
The traveling customers are advised to provide more time for their trip to the airport.
Thank you!” – This airline is tweeted.
Other airlines also said they reported several passengers who arrived late when they complained trapped in slow traffic but they allowed them to consider the situation.
