Kolkata: The city witnessed 1,006 prosecution between 9pm and 11 nights on Tuesday night – the highest during a two-hour trip on weekdays since the pandemic began.
From them, 980 people were sued in various node traffic.
While a total of 816 vehicles were examined across the city between 9pm and 10 nights on Tuesday, around 508 vehicles reportedly violated the IPC part 188 and 200.
The police examined 756 other vehicles between 10pm and 11:00 and found that 472 vehicles violated the rules.
“We have asked traffic guards to ensure that all violations listed under IPC 188 and IPC 200 are reported to the local police station, where they will be forwarded to the court,” said DC (traffic) Arijit Sinha.
A large number of violations during restrictions at night – now not only on weekends but also on weekdays, despite severe crackdown by Kolkata police – leading Lalbazar to plan several new steps to “disciplining”.
The number of nights nights, manned by traffic police and police from the local police station, will now go up and Lalbazar has asked all senior officers to go to the road.
The police have also decided to notify the Excise Ministry of the possibility of violations in the excise rules they encountered during the raid.
“If needed, we will propose a joint attack,” said an officer in Lalbazar.
Last week, the number of prosecutions was around 520.
