Kolkata: Colleges and universities in the city have begun to clean up, improve and renovate their campuses, including classrooms, laboratories and other facilities, most of whom have been lying not used since March last year, when all educational institutions were closed when the pandemics broke out.

From the reshuffle of electrical cables and equipment to repair classrooms, stairs and bathrooms to paint the corridor, the campuses are undergoing major repairs after the minister’s main instructions that educational institutions can be reopened after pujas if the Covid case remains a check.
Authorities say improvements need to be because places have not been used for more than 18 months and almost no maintenance work is done.
They show the struggle for renovation is to ensure that buildings are ready to welcome students and teachers back, if permitted.

Jadavelpur University has set a 45-day target to improve the British class and 25 days for civil engineering classes.
The teacher association at the university wrote to the Minister of Education last week, caught his attention on equipment, worth hundreds of crores, collecting dust.
“Notifications have been sent to the department head for an audit after the EC emergency meeting last week regarding the campus reopened.

Calcutta University has also begun maintenance work in almost all campuses throughout the city, including server recovery in the centenary building in College Street, repairing classrooms and toilets in Rajabazar Science College and electric wire reshuffles at Blackgunge Science College.

Two cyclones and heavy rain have damaged infrastructure.
Errors have appeared on the cable and some electrical gadgets have not been used,” said an official of the CU plantation department.
The Scottish Church College strengthens the curved ceiling of bricks and other parts of the main building.
St Paul’s cathedral mission repaired the toilet at the Jani Ali building.
Other colleges, such as Jaipuria, Maulana Azad and Asutosh also made improvements.
“The Ministry of Education has told us to prepare reports about the condition of the building and start repairs so that every time the campus is reopened, there should be no risk of safety for anyone,” said a North Kolkata Principal.
