Chennai: Minister Tamil Nadu M Stalin on Tuesday urged the state universities to introduce new courses in new areas such as data science, cyber security, artificial intelligence, social engineering, digital marketing, economic behavior and theory.
CM also urged state universities to evolve from only distributing degrees to research institutions and to produce more discoveries to dedicate.
Stalin spoke here after inaugurating the Tamil Nadu unmanned air vehicle company and one megawatt solar power plant for Madurai Kamaraj University.
He said the new company UAV has an example of technological innovation in the state.
Citing the use of drones in the police in the state, he said drones could be useful in mining surveys, disaster management and take pictures of the sky, among others.
“The need for drones increases every day.
I congratulations on the faculty and students at the Aerospace Research Center on the MIT campus of Anna University to design and develop drones,” Stalin said.
The corporation of Tamil Nadu unmanned air vehicles will function from the Directorate of Technical Education (Dote) campus.
The corporation will provide expert advice for the government department who wants to use drones and will also employ 75 drones developed on MIT for other departments use.
He asked all universities to use solar power such as Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU).
“All state universities need to take innovative initiatives like that,” he said.
Mku spent electricity bills rs 25 lakh per month.
By preparing solar power plants at a cost of 7.25 crore at six hectares on campus, the university will fulfill its energy demand in an environmentally friendly way.
Later, the minister’s chairman also witnessed the demonstration of various types of drones at the College of Engineering, Guindy, Grounds Campus.
He also visited UAV Expo on campus.
