Commercial op of Kengeri Metro corridor likely from Aug

BENGALURU: Kengeri residents wait for Namma Metro is likely to get longer.
Namma Metro’s Mysuru Road-Kengeri corridor was supposed to be completed by December 2018.
The 7.3km section of south-western extension of Namma Metro’s Purple Line was expected to benefit 75,000 passengers a day.
BMRCL missed multiple deadlines for this corridor: December 2018, March 2019, November 2019, October 2020, February 2021, April 2021 and June 2021.
Till May 2021, 96% of civil work between Mysuru Road and Pattanagere was completed, while 95% of Pattanagere to Challaghatta depot is over.
“We have sent an application for the inspection for the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) and are waiting for his date.
He is expected to inspect the section by the first week of July.
We can commence commercial operations after the CMRS nod,” said a BMRCL source.
BMRCL has also completed the trial run on this section.
Sources said commercial operation of Kengeri Metro is likely to begin from August.
However, there have been delays in the past even after the CMRS inspection.
In November 2020, for instance, CMRS had granted permission for the Kanakapura Road section (Yelachenahalli-Silk Institute).
However, it was finally inaugurated on January 14, 2021.
The elevated Kengeri section will have seven stations —- Nayandahalli,Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Jnanabharathi, Pattanagere, Kengeri bus terminal, Kengeri and Challaghatta.
