LEH: Speaker Lok Sabha Om Birla on Friday underlined the active participation of the people in the democratic process and the legislature to make democracy stronger and cited visits by more than 200 MPs from the ruling party and the opposition to Ladakh in the past two months, reflecting the Government’s commitment to the region.

Birla said the outreach exercise is intended to ensure the active participation of people from remote areas for growth should start at the grass roots level and reaching Parliament.
He said democracy is reflected in the tradition of Ladakh.

Local Mp Jamyang Namgyal Tsering said grassroots democracy has been strengthened in the area of Ladakh and Kargil after 2014 and initiatives have recently been profound democratic government.
He also praised the large infrastructure development initiatives undertaken at UT.
Representatives from the autonomous hill development council Ladakh, Kargil and Leh urged that the funds given to the region should be categorized as a category of “non-interval” because it is not possible to execute the job for three of four months due to harsh weather conditions during winter.
