New Delhi: In the midst of a raging pandemic, the number of women reaching the National Commission for Women to report violence and harassment in their homes has shown a significant increase in 2021 when compared to 2020.
In the second year of Pandemic, the National Commission for receiving 30,865 complaints, where 72.5% (22,379) fall into three categories – to secure their right to live with dignity (36%); protection from domestic violence (21.6%); And the problem of harassment of married women included for dowry (15%).
The Statwise break-up shows that 51.3% of all complaints in 24 categories came from Uttar Pradesh, followed by Delhi (10.8%) and Maharashtra (4.9%).
Comparison with previous years data shows that the total complaints rose more than 30% from 23,722 received at 2020 to 30,865.
By 2020, almost 70% of total complaints come from three categories where maximum complaints have been received this year.

In accordance with the NCW portal data, in 2021, complaints related to securing the right to live with dignity jumped 44% to 11,084 compared to 7,715 in the previous year.
The next big reason for women to reach commissions in 2021 as in 2020 remained protection from domestic violence, with 6,682 complaints received in this category to 26%.
