Guwahati: Conflict between Gauhati University (GU) and Governor Assam Jagdish Mukhi about the issue of termination of increasing contract teacher work.
Gu Vice-Chancelor PJ Handlique on Monday wrote to the Head of Minister of Himanta Buswa Sarma, seeking his advice to break the deadlock at the state university after the body and the body of the teacher and the teacher refused to approve the governor’s direction.
“The minister’s chairman has received an urgent letter from GU.
We expect a solution to the intervention because all the roads are closed after the governor said it was not for the continuation of the contractual teacher service,” said a senior university official.
The termination of contract teacher work has reduced the strength of the university faculty which is up to 20% and it will affect some of the most sought-after courses in trade and law, among others.
A high-level meeting held at the University on Sunday night decided to bring this problem to the University Academic Council, which was the highest decision-making body in academic affairs.
The same will also be taken to the University Executive Board for the last nod.
However, the view of members of the two committees led by the Chancellor will be very important.
Gu Vice-Chancellor PJ Handlique has told the media that he had to issue directives by contrary to his will because the instruction came from the Chancellor of the University, Mukhi.
Meanwhile, the Gautati University Teachers Association (Guta) on Monday approached the Registrar Gu, demanded the withdrawal of the termination command issued at 2.
“Guta demands administration to take proactive action for the creation of additional posts in the department,” said Guta General Secretary Bikash Gogoi.
“Guta demands the GU government to take proactive actions to maintain academic sanctity, the academic environment and university academic standards.
In such situations, Guta will stand upright behind the GU government,” read memorandum.
According to university sources, around 50 members of the Faculty of Contracts will lose their jobs if the decision is not reviewed.
