Margao: President Party Forward (GFP) Vijai Sardesai said on Tuesday that the leadership of the Congress had shown its tendency to the alliance with the 2022 assembly poll.
However, the functionary of the local Congress said that they were not aware of these developments.
“Dinesh Gundu Rao (AICC secretary responsible for the Goa table) spoke to me.
He said that the leadership of the Congress had approved the Alliance with GFP.
However, modalities have not been discussed,” said Sardesai.
He also said that GFP would take 12 seats in the 2022 poll, and that candidates would be elected after “comprehensive surveys and research”.
The GFP currently has 3 MLA in the State Assembly, then only for Congress, the main opposition party left with 5 MLA after 10 legislators left the party to join BJP in July 2019.
Sardesai has long advocated political opposition to the BJP, but the movement has been rejected by the faction in Congress.
President of the State Congress of President Girish Chodankar also said his tendency to every tie-up with GFP.
While walking out of NDA earlier this year, Sardesai has urged all the anti-BJP parties to form an alliance under the banner of ‘Goa Team’ to take the Safron party in the assembly selection of 2022.
However, speaking to Ti on Tuesday, Chodankar said that he did not Knowing the existence of discussions held between Sardesai and Rao as claimed by Sardesai, but emphasized that talks about the alliance had not started at the local level.
“Central leadership will first begin the consultation process with local functionaries and cadres before deciding alliance proposals,” Chodankar said.
“As a party president, I did not know the conversation that occurred in that matter.
Leadership has notified us that local inputs will be taken from leaders and cadres on the issue of alliance and that calls will be taken at the right time.

“Opposition leader drawn Kamat also denied having knowledge about alliance proposals that found assistance with high command of Congress.
