New Delhi: MP Congress Jairam Ramesh has written to the Chairperson of Rajya Sabha M Venkaiiah Naidu objected to the appointment of Journalists and leaders of the BJP Tarun Vijay as Chair of the National Monument Authority (NMA), accusing that Vijay was appointed in the procedure set out in the Statute.
He also said he wanted to move the privilege movement to the Union Cultural Minister to ignore the legal provisions authorized by the parliament in approving the removal of NMA’s head.
Ramesh quotes ancient monuments and the ACT 2010 Archaeological and Validation Monuments, which mandates that the Chairperson of NMA “will have proven the experience and expertise in the fields of archeology, state and city planning, conservation, legacy, or law architecture”.
“For the first time, I found that the Indian government has appointed the chairpers of his educational and professional backgrounds, in any way, fulfilling legal requirements as regulated by parliament.
That the appointed is a former parliamentary member irrelevant and does not make any difference, “He said in his letter, a copy of TI owned.
NMA is regulated according to the provisions of ACASR (Amandment and Validation), and is assigned several functions for protection and preservation of monuments and protected sites.
The main responsibility, among others, is to consider giving permission to applicants for construction related activities in areas that are prohibited and regulated.
Vijay, former MP Rajya Sabha MP, who served as the editor of the Panungan RSS, was appointed as Head of NMA in 2019 by Prahlad Singh Patel, a predecessor of the Virgin Union Cultural Minister G Kishen Reddy.
According to his biodata on the Rajya Sabha website, Vijay has a scholar in art and was educated in Dehradun and at the University of Osmania Hyderabad.
He described himself as a journalist and a writer, and as “an environmentalist, tribe activist and a sharp photographer.” Ramesh accused the minister of culture “making this joke of the law (Amasr Act)” by monitoring Vijay’s appointment and said he wanted to move the movement of the privilege against the Union minister, as a result.
It will still get to Naidu, as Chair of the hospital, to recognize the movement of privileges and send it to the committee concerned for the examination.
If the notification is accepted, the Ministry of Culture and Ramesh officials may be asked to appear before the Rajya Sabha’s privileges.
The house has the power to determine what is a violation of privileges and insults and committee reports must be approved by the Chair before any action taken.
