New Delhi: Congress is considering replacing Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury his leader at Lok Sabha and pointed to a new face to catalyze the opposition strategy at home and outside and the corner of the government in parliament.
The source said this was to offer the olive branch to the leader of Trinamool Mamata Banerjee, because Adhir and Mamata had rivals since their days together in Congress.
The upcoming decision might come after the party scored zero in the Western Bengal Assembly election even though Chowdhury got a free hand.
Replacement that might be Manish Tewari or Shashi Tharoor.
Tewari is the MP of Anandpur Sahib in Punjab but has roots in the East and has good relations with Mamata Banerjee and he is also a Brahmana, while Shashi Tharoor, MP from Kerala has vocal on some problems.
The part of the party hit for Rahul Gandhi but the source said that he was not interested because the floor leader would not get the status of opposition leader because Congress did not meet the criteria.
Incidentally, both Tharoor and Tewari came from the G-23 group who wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi for sweeping reform at the party.
As Sonia Gandhi reached up and opposition leaders, he built a new team that was more flexible in the approach.
Chowdhury can be given the assignment to build a party in the state because he is the head.
