Chandrapur: Vidarbha Kisan Majdoor Congress (VKMS) protested to save the Irai river which was dying on Saturday.
The protesters led by former Secretary of the Youth Congress Rahul Puglia shouted slogans and waved banners demanding Irai rejuvenation.
Puglia claims that Irai is the main source of drinking water for Chandrapur City and irrigation of agricultural land around it.
Having a big dam on it, the river stretch that absorbs the city almost dries.
Because of the reluctance of administrations, the river has turned into a stack of dry mounds and wild shrub plants spread.
“There is an urgent need to clean and deepen the river in front of the Nagpur bridge meeting with the Wardha River.
At present, small drain is like a flow of flowing through the riverbed, while the remaining part of the river bed is a stretch of dry ground spread and spotting vegetation, “Puglia said.
He demanded the beauty of the river bank and built a series of water surfaces.
Puglia showed that mounds developed during the construction of a large bridge on the river in Datala Point had hampered the flow of the river.
Bush fillings on the bed also blocked the flow.
He demanded the appointment of mounds and bushes.
Requests for building Ghat for Ganesh Imersh, Gauri Pujan, Chhat Puja etc.
The religious festiva was also raised through agitation.
A detailed memorandum with the demands and looking for grants for rejuvenation of the IRAI RRIVER from mining royalty funds was also sent to the head of the Minister of Uddhav Thackeray.
