Jaipur: Hitting BJP to repeatedly ask the congress what he did for 70 years in power, Head of Chief of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot on Friday said the grand party of the Grand kept the country not divided and intact democracy and that was because this was a new government formed.
He said the country received independence because the leaders of Congress made sacrifices and went to prison.
Gehlot spoke in a program held to commemorate the 77th birth alert of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
He said it was very easy to ask what the congress did for 70 years.
In this 70 years, Congress maintains the country and democracy intact and increasingly strengthens them.
Unlike Pakistan, India does not fall under military rule, he added.
“The government in the country continues to come and go.
The government today is also formed because of strong democratic roots.
These people forget this,” Gehlot said without mentioning anyone.
In democracy, criticism is welcomed but these people cannot tolerate and consider it incitement, he said, targeting the center.
Gehlot said former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for the nation.
“Our leaders made sacrifices and went to prison and it was because of their sacrifice and struggled so that the country to get independence,” he said.
“The new generation must understand this and they will understand when they study history, both the pre-independence or post-independence era.
Those who learn from history are able to make history,” he said.
Gehlot said Rajiv Gandhi took hundreds of decisions during his term as PM who changed the country in the following years.
He said former PM launched various missions, promoting it and telecommunications, giving voting rights to young people aged 18 years and prepared the nation for the 21st century.
Speaking at the event through a video conference, Sam Pitroda, who served as Advisor to Rajiv Gandhi during his term as PM, said it was mainly because Rajiv Gandhi was that India was in the leading position globally now.
“The idea (Rajiv Gandhi) is to improve the health, education, justice, financial system systems through e-governance and it really increases productivity while using modern technology and tools,” he said.
Rajiv Gandhi has launched six mission of technology related to telecommunications, water, literacy, immunization, milk production and grain oil, he added.
Pitroda claims that today, civil society only has a small role to play and scientific temperament is not encouraged.
“I’m worried that the institution was captured today,” he said.
If Rajiv Gandhi is around, India will be very different, he added.
During the event, Gehlot also launched the Kisan Sathi portal for the convenience of farmers, e-booklets were prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture, I-Start Virtual Incubation Center and announced Rajiv Gandhi’s innovation award for start-up.
Born in 1944, Rajiv Gandhi was the prime minister from 1984 to 1989.
He was killed in 1991.
